Phillips Pastorate Home Page

Welcome to the website for the Phillips pastorate! We are a group of around 35 people who worship at Holy Trinity Brompton on a Sunday and who meet regularly on a Tuesday on the King’s Road in Chelsea.

If you would like to find out more about who we are, what we do and why we do it, read on!

Aims of the Phillips pastorate

Our most fundamental aim is to love and serve Our Lord Jesus Christ within the setting and context of our daily lives here in London. Perhaps some of this desire can be encapsulated in the thoughts below:

  1. The single most important thing we do in pastorate is sustain and build our Christian faith in a relaxed, friendly but committed way. We get the opportunity to meet people at a similar age and stage and we work out and hopefully walk out our understanding of the gospel. We believe that together we are so much more than the sum of our individual parts. So we learn together, laugh together, pray together and serve together.
  2. In particular we aim to welcome people who are new to the church and who have maybe just become a Christian on an Alpha Course at HTB or elsewhere. (Many of our group help out on the Alpha Course on a regular basis). The hope is that we are a place where people can “find their feet” without wondering to themselves “what am I doing here”!
  3. Another important aim is to explore our gifts and our calling. In Ephesians Chapter 4 Paul writes that “It was He (Jesus Christ) who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists and some to be pastors and teachers”. So together we explore all the different ways in which we can become fully who God made and intended us to be, so that in turn we can serve Him in the most effective way possible. In practical terms, there are opportunities to give talks, run homegroups, lead worship, lead prayer times, give words of knowledge or prophecy, interpret a word from others and of course to serve in the local community.

Mission Statement

Our Mission Statement is to “Gather Grow and Go”

Gather means to meet, eat, worship and pray together regularly, encouraging each other and building up our faith, feeling connected to HTB and part of the local community.

Grow means to grow in faith (upwards, inwards and outwards) and to grow in the sense of maturing in our faith. In Ephesians Chapter 4 Paul writes that “we are given different gifts to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the Body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ”.

So we want to grow – whether we have just finished Alpha and become a Christian, or maybe we are thinking about becoming a Christian, or whether there has never been a time when we have not known the love of God, we are all on a journey and we can always grow!

Go means to fulfil the Great Commission in Matthew Chapter 28 to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” in the knowledge that Jesus is with us always. This means we go into the local community, we impact London, we reach out to other communities in the UK and then the wider world!
